Nearly a Century of Commitment to Customers

From its roots as a small, family-run operation in Irvington, New Jersey, cleaning coveralls for local workmen to its position today as one of the nation's premier, independent uniform rental companies, Clean Rental has transformed itself during its 90-year history. But, through its many changes and unprecedented growth, Clean Rental has clung to one primary guiding principle - service to customer above all.

"I started spending time in my family's cleaning business as a child," said James Wasserson, president and CEO of CleanRental.com and grandson of company founder, Max Blotner. "I watched him work with single-minded devotion to the customer. I took that philosophy with me, knowing that the customer would be the central focus of my business."

In 1981, Wasserson moved to Philadelphia and began building on his family's legacy. With innovative and strategic thinking, Wasserson introduced concepts unheard of in the uniform rental business until that time.

For example, Clean Rental drivers are non-commissioned, industry-experienced individuals who focus exclusively on client employee needs. By removing the sales component of their jobs, Wasserson recognized that drivers could spend time at each client location improving client satisfaction. Clean Rental plant employees are provided with incentives to earn more than their hourly wage, a non-standard procedure in the business.

In addition, Clean Rental's management staff consists of long-time industry people; some from "cleaning" families of their own. By hiring from within the industry, Wasserson and his team turned what was "wrong" with standard operating practice into overall satisfaction in key areas like billing policies, the installation process and garment repair and replacement. In fact, Clean Rental's Red Bag, Red Tag, Red Locker Uniform Repair Program, which guarantees repaired or replaced uniforms are returned the following week without added fees, was a first and remains a scarcity in the industry.

Today, Clean Rental is a market leader specializing in the larger client - those companies that have a sizeable base of employees wearing uniforms.

The numbers tell the story - Clean Rental has doubled the size of its business every 5 to 7 years during the past three decades and boasts 98% customer retention among the 10,000 clients it serves.

The people drive the business - Clean Rental continues to build the legacy started by Wasserson's family nearly a century ago. With quality services provided by dedicated people, Clean Rental is poised to serve its clients for another hundred years.

Clean Rental - a fresh approach to uniforms.
